🚨 Trade Update: Nepal's Imports Soar to Rs 1300 Billion, Exports Lag at Rs 126 Billion 🚨

📅 KATHMANDU, MAY 20

As of mid-May, Nepal's trade deficit has reached a staggering Rs 1177 billion. Goods worth Rs 1303 billion were imported, while exports were limited to just Rs 126 billion, according to the Department of Customs.

In the first 10 months of the current financial year, foreign trade transactions totaled Rs 1429 billion, marking a 2.50% decline from the previous year. Imports decreased by 2.39%, and exports fell by 3.61% during this period.

Key Highlights:
🔹 Trade deficit with India: Rs 729 billion. Imports from India: Rs 815 billion, Exports to India: Rs 86 billion.
🔹 Trade deficit with China: Rs 238 billion. Imports from China: Rs 240 billion, Exports to China: Rs 22.74 billion.

Major Imports:
🛢️ Petroleum products: Petrol (Rs 115.67 billion), Diesel (Rs 56.80 billion), Cooking gas (Rs 46 billion)
📱 Mobile phones: Rs 24 billion

Top Exports:
🧶 Carpets: Rs 8.79 billion
🌿 Cardamom: Rs 6.91 billion
🔩 Iron: Rs 5.52 billion
🥥 Palm oil: Rs 5.60 billion
